Benedict
XVI - Spe Salvi: In Hope
We Are Saved
The title of Benedict XVI's
Encyclical, published 30 November 2007, refers to Romans 8:24, "For in
hope we were saved." As the Holy Father teaches, our hope is based on
the love of God, who offers redemption, the goal of our journey. We are
freed from bondage to matter, because God governs its laws. In our
relationship with Him, established through Christ, we have life that can
never be taken away.

confusion about the Church's responsibility to make the Gospel known to
all, while respecting their freedom regarding conversion.
Pope
Benedict XVI - Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum
On Saturday 7 July 2007 the Holy See released the long-awaiting Motu
Proprio of Pope Benedict XVI on the celebration of the Roman Rite
according to the Missal of 1962. The Motu Proprio, a document
originating with Pope Benedict "by his own hand," grants the Mass and
Sacraments according to their pre-Vatican II rites the status of an
"extraordinary form" that can be celebrated by Latin Rite priests in
accordance with the norms laid down in this document. The Motu Proprio
was accompanied by a letter of Pope Benedict.
ZENIT -
Reorienting the Mass
The statement asserting that the priest celebrating the older form of
the Mass has "his back to the people" misses the point, says Father Uwe
Michael Lang of the London Oratory and recently appointed to work for
the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church. In
this interview with ZENIT, Father Lang speaks about the "ad orientem"
posture and the possibilities for a rediscovery of the ancient
liturgical practice.

The following study by the International Theological Commission was
published on 20 April 2007 with the consent of Pope Benedict XVI, on a

various nationalities called together to examine doctrinal questions of
major importance. It is not an organ of the Magisterium, although its
President is the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the
Faith; therefore, this study is not a teaching document of the Church.
