Medjugorje
Question from Anonymous on 8/25/2011:

Dr. Geraghty, What is the Church's Official position on the Alleged Apparitions at Medjugorje. I know that the Bishops there said there was nothing supernatural about them, So my question is why is there so many people follingthis apparition If It's not a True Apparition approved by the Church. Thanks for your time, God bless

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 9/11/2011:

Dear Anon,

We live in wild times. The local Bishops at Medjugorje have frowned upon the apparitions, not giving the approval needed before Rome can make a judgment. Yet eminent figures like Pope John Paul II have as a matter of his private judgment favored the apparitions. No one can doubt that wonderful things have happened there in a revival of the saying the Rosary and receiving the sacraments. But a priest who have been a moving spirit has been excommunicated for sexual improprieties and his fellow Friars have been in rebellion against their local Bishop. The whole scene is confusing and disturbing. As I said, we live in wild times. There has been a very reputable book (I forget the author) arguing the Medjugorje a sham.

Dr. Geraghty
